I am a native of Abbeville, SC. I graduated from Erskine College in 1962 and graduated from
Erskine Seminary in 1967. I came to Mt. Zion as student supply in July 1966 and was ordained
and installed as pastor in 1967. I married the former Miss Barbara Houston on September 16,
1967. Ours was the first wedding in what then was the new Mt. Zion church building. We lived
in a trailer just west of the little shed. In May 1973 I accepted a call to become pastor of the
Louisville A.R.P. Church, Louisville, GA. In July 1978 I became pastor of the Hopewell A.R.P.
Church near Covington, GA. I became pastor of the Elsberry A.R.P. Church in October 2000
and Stated Supply of Mt. Zion in July 2002.
I have a big interest in history. I served 3.5 years as president of the Newton County Historical
Society in Covington, GA, where I wrote monthly historical articles for "The Covington News."
I am currently the president of the Lincoln County Historical Society. My main hobby is
railroad hisotry. I maintain extensive historical information on the old St. Louis & Hannibal
Railroad and the St. Louis & Troy Railroad. I also maintain historical information on the old
Due West Railway (SC), the Greenville & Columbia Railway (SC), and the Louisville & Wadley
Railroad (GA).
